What Is the Importance of LSI Keywords and Why Should You Care?

If you have heard anything in the Internet marketing realm about LSI, there is a chance that it has had a lot of heated debate. This is one subject that the industry as a whole cannot agree on. It is the quickest way to get a conversion going though. Just mention it at an internet marketing convention and you will not hear the end of it. My goal in this article is to explain why I think that it is a valid point. Also I will explain why it is important to at least try to test it in your efforts when doing work on your website online.

First I think I should describe what LSI stands for. It stands for Latent Semantic Indexing. What it does is, that you should include keywords within your website that are under your master theme. For example, a website that is themed around dogs would have the following keywords included.

1. Dogs
2. Mans Best Friend
3.

Canine
4. Puppies
5. Tails
6. Fleas

The idea is that if your page has certain LSI keywords included in it, that the page is more relevant to being about the search term. However this has never been proven, and I am pretty sure there is not a phone number to call where Google will answer any of your questions. Actually, I am positive about that.

There is one way that I believe it is a viable option and that is from the what you can find from using the Google External Tool and Sktool. These are both tools from Google and the reason I believe it works is because when you use these tools they give you back information called "related searches" in these related searches you will find keywords that are in the same niche. Now if Google is saying that these are related and that you would get better rankings if these words are included, I think that is enough for me to at least test it. The really only way to test if this will work is to try it on a site that needs a little boost in the search engines. I would suggest doing this and only this for at least a month. If you start to see that your rankings change then I would consider this a viable ranking strategy. Then when you redesign your website or make a new website implement this strategy and see how it turns out.
